Utilising anthracite as a clean and efficient energy source
I took part in a panel discussion at the 2024 Eurocoke Summit in Vienna, Austria. The event covered various topics related to the global coal, coke, and steel industries.
Sharing my views, I explained that demand for anthracite will continue to grow globally because it is a cleaner alternative with high energy density, making it a suitable replacement for coke in major industries like steelmaking. South Africa produces an estimated 3.5 million tons of anthracite annually, and 60% is exported to countries like Brazil, Vietnam, India, and the US.
